FAIRPLAY
Fair Food Practices: Learning Awareness for Youth in Healthy Nutrition and Ethical Purchase and Consumption
Nowadays, we face a range of consumer and purchasing challenges, including limited recognition of labels that highlight food quality and nutritional value, increased food waste — 62% of which occurs at the consumption stage, including households and food services — and a lack of awareness about fair and sustainable products. These aspects of the value chain have led to social imbalance, negatively impacting the global market. Adopting responsible behaviors, both individually and collectively, begins at a young age, with schools serving as a powerful channel of communication and education. Through schools, students shape values, cultivate skills, and develop attitudes that contribute to their responsible and active participation in society. More effectively, gamification (i.e., the application of game-design elements and principles in non-game contexts to engage and motivate people to achieve their goals) can enhance this educational process by integrating interactive and engaging elements into learning environments. FAIRPLAY aims at utilizing game-based methods, and encourage students to actively participate in their learning journey, making complex concepts, such as sustainability and nutrition, more accessible and memorable. Such a gamified approach will also foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and collaboration among students, empowering them to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts.
