NutriRoots
A time-travel through human past: evolution’s guide to healthy eating
NutriRoots aims at showcasing the evolutionary origins of contemporary diet-related diseases and intolerances, such as obesity, diabetes II, lactose and gluten intolerance and promote informed dietary choices for their prevention and mitigation. We aim to demonstrate the history of these conditions and their change through millennia of cultural, environmental, and biological interactions in order to promote healthy eating habits and inspire long-term change. To achieve this, we will design educational tools and targeted actions, guiding the participants on a dynamic ‘time travel’ through human evolution. Flanked by novel and solid scientific evidence, the project bridges evolutionary theory with modern nutritional well-being and highlights how an evolutionary perspective can be practically applied to empower contemporary diet conscience. The main contribution of BHV is on the design of an interactive, age-inclusive serious game to educate users about the evolutionary basis of diet-related diseases and motivate them to adopt a healthier dietary lifestyle.
